+1 on both Jeromy's and Geoff comments. I think at the end of the day you should also do what you feel comfortable at. I strongly believe you can make money anywhere in stocks, property, startup, service business, retail and even franchises if you own enough of them :) It all depends what you do

I guess the one thing I haven't seen anyone mention on this thread yet is IC design. There are a few companies around in Australia that aren't really startups but rather provide ASIC and FPGA services. We (Lateral Sands) and a few others like us mostly work for US companies doing ASIC design
