Hi all,
Is it possible to use variables in phone group configurations that
would be interpreted before creating the config files for phones?
For example, we use Linksys SPA942 phones and I would like the
following configs:

We have plans to try Xen and the Sun product, but haven't had time
yet. I can see reasons that it might work better in Xen. Overall it

Even if you can get the addresses bound correctly I guess that the real
problem will be how to create the databases and configuration files per
instance.
However, perhaps that could be sorted by creating different chroot
environments for each instance?
Also, for what it's worth, I'm running
Thanks Carlos. Got any idea if it might work under Linux KVM ?

Thanks, going back to my original question though :
sipxacd which is bound to 0.0.0.0:8110
sipxpresence which is bound to 0.0.0.0:8111
watchdog which is bound to 0.0.0.0:8092
Is there any reason why these cannot be bound to a specific IP ? Is there
any command to force them to bind, or would I ne

Just as a reference point, we are using plain Asterisk 1.4 on VMware
Enterprise 3.5 in prod
hi john,
that maybe true but i guess it's worth a try :) another option is to
use opensipstack (http://www.opensourcesip.org). this app would allow
you to support multiple domains with your sipxecs.

Raymund,
I've seen several references now for folks not to use VM in production, as
its only safe for testing, so I guess that holds true for Xen also?

Hi John,
For multiple instances, one option is to go via virtual machines.
There is an opensource VM app called Xen. You may want to check this
out.

Not possible on 3.10.2 unless you have an Ingate or an independent
Session Border Controller (SBC) of some sort.
There is support coming in 4.0 via the sipXbridge project, which is in
the unstable branch at this point.

Hi Andrew,
Unfortunately Engin don't provide a true SIP Trunking service (or at
least none their sales reps seem to know about).
They expect to see a phone (aka user agent) on the other end of the link
rather than a PBX. To make your Engin account
work with sipX you'll need a Back to Back User
Hi,
I have sipx running quite happily bound to a specific IP for its first
instance. I used a fedora core 8 "image" that I chroot'd into, and installed
sipx via the fedora core 8 instructions on the site (via yum). There are a
couple of processes though that are ignoring the hardcoded IP (in

I installed the sipx CD on one of my machines and I noticed sipx did insert
the correct SRV records, but when I use dig, I was more expecting the
response to contain the host and ports for the sip udp service. Why does
that not work? Here is my dig results(ps. I am trying to verify my ISP

Hi All,
After having looked through the wiki (and lots of Googling) I still
can't seem to work out how to do this, or even if it is possible at
this stage (we are using sipX 3.10 from the ISO)
We have setup a trial account with an Internet VoIP provider and they
have given us the following
Use SCSI.
At the boot prompt from the ISO type in
manual-format
then press enter.
Realize a virtual machine is good for testing and getting used to the
system, but not recommended for production purposes.
