Yes, Australia is definitely a Nanny state... So many examples - particularly in technology. High Speed Trains - we have 200kmh capable XPT trains. Not allowed to run them at their designed speed. Only run at 80-90kmh Uranium. Allowed to dig it up. Not allowed to use it in a pressure cooker or u

I'm guessing that the 90km/h limit on the trains is more about the tracks than the trains. On 06/29/2011 11:36 AM, David Lyon wrote: I'm not having a stab at the PowerHouse.. but why can't we use that AI system on Australia's High Speed Trains? why force those people to work in China not here?

In Japan in the 1960's they were running standard trains on standard tracks on the the Shenkazen line at 160kmh - 200kmh. When they wanted to go faster than 200kmh they built special tracks. The XPT trains will run on standard tracks at 160-180kmh. But it isn't allowed. Australian Trains still do

It has everything to do with the tracks and the guage of the tracks. NSW tracks in particular are rated around 110Kms/hour. But with the extreme temperatures (definable difference between seasons) we experience the tracks would require more frequent realignment. Rather than the once or twice a y

The reality is more boring than your theory. I can't speak for years gone by but recently in the last couple of years there was an upgrade of the sleepers from wood to concrete with has caused all sorts of problems and as such the trains can't go as fast as they previously could. It was reporte

There are multiple examples of these instances. As Nick said, the State has an obligation to all it's citizens. If parents are not acting responsibly and in the child's best interests then they are negating their responsibilities and thus the State needs to intervene. Unless, of course, the
