some soaring?

Hi Chris,
First of all congratulations for your project. It is nice to see that young
people are interested in understanding the principles of flight. Aspect
ratio optimization is a key factor in glider design.
Here is a simplified analysis which I hope will awnser your question(s):

Generally speaking higher aspect ratio with either a fixed span or area will
equal a reduced wing chord. This will result in reduced reynolds numbers
which equals reduced performance for most all airfoils

Excellent question Chris! Bravo to you for asserting a hypothesis and TRYING
it!
Mr. Joe Wurts who is sometimes on this list and an expert in matters
aerodynamic, has mentioned his findings that I'll grossly simplify as;
"Optimum aspect ratio varies with wing span." I don't remember more of what

I'd love to get some feedback -- and error reports.

Jim,
The length should be 150-200'. The smaller end of that spectrum for shorter
feilds, and the longer ropes for larger feilds. I cross referenced my memory
against my flight manual. Hope this helps.

OK, this question is sort of soaring related. My son builds military
dioramas. He and I discovered the BV-40, a German glider designed to be an
interceptor against bomber squadrons. His diorama will be a "could have
been" variety as only one BV-40 was test flown. It was designed to be towe
