I'm using for vpn devices. They are all running FreeBSD 6.2
for the OS, and I'm using OpenVPN to handle the vpn side of
things. (I tried using IPSec, but I couldn't make it work for
me since several of the vpn clients have dynamic IP
After (trying) to fix the net5501 startup freeze as described by Soeren
I found that the Disk LED no longer work. Only during the firmware boot
it goes on for a second. Than there are no further indication of Disk

My question is whether adding the vpn1411 encryption card will help
increase my throughput.
I tried it under NetBSD (with a 4801, I think it was) and my experience
says it won't. I found that, for OpenVPN's use, the overhead of
crossing into the kernel outweighed

Hi all,
Is it possible (with GPIO and/or software e.g.) to get the Ethernet
status LEDs (LNK ACT) or its signals to some outer LEDs? I want to
place the net5501 board in a bigger case and the ethernet ports are
not in the front anymore. And of course, without soldering cables from

I just received a net5501 and am running FreeBSD 6.x (RELENG_6) on
it. It has a 1GB CF card, and a 60GB ATA 2.5 IDE disk drive
installed. I have problems with FreeBSD booting, hanging just after
the probe/attach of the two ATA disks, unless I disable the DMA in /

I spent a few hours this weekend trying to connect some Dallas
Semiconductor temperature sensor chips to the GPIO pins on the 5501.
The first problem was figuring out the pinout of the GPIO connector
(which does NOT match the documentation in the 4801 manual). Once
that was solved, the next

this is what i actually have hacked given not a clue
o note the drive mounts far back, away from leds, so cables
clear a bit better
o cables are a squeeze, and i am not happy with proximity to
chips
o drive is very close to mini-pci
