It has the same layout as a floppy power connector: {+5 gnd gnd +12}

Could someone knowledgeable verify the following bits of information:
A. There is a functional second USB port on the 5501 board.
B. The USB port is on connector JP8, which has a clearly labeled pin 1,
and uses the standard USB pinout (1=Vcc, 2=Data-, 3=Data+, 4=ground).
I think question A has
Hi,
I run OpenBSD from CF cards without any problem. CF is the cheap and
flexible option. For the price of a single 2.5" HDD you can have 10 or
more CF cards lying around, each with its own OS and/or configuration,
or as backups.
Writing speed is an issue with the cheaper cards, whether that is a
I forgot to mention: no moving parts, no mount trouble, no heat issues,
no cables in weird places, no noise, no need for extra fans - CF!;)

Hi Voipcrazy,
that's more or less (or exactly) what the output looks like when
baudrates don't match. Did you try the other available speeds? Maybe
it's something with hyperterminal, scan the archives for that one. You
can of course always try reaching your Soekris boxes from a host running

Dear list,
I planned to install Debian on the soekris 5501 box but I'm not sure if
install it on a CF card or in a SATA 2,5" Hdd drive.
Which kind of install will be easier? which one would have less error or
patching?
How about the life of a CF card compare with the life of a SATA drive?
Thanks

I remember seeing some emails go through the list concerning the ability
to cause the card to power down for a few moments.
Now, going back to the list, I can't seem to find references to that.
Anyone remember the magic code?
Also, when I boot NetBSD on my NE5501, all works fine on the first boo
Hello all,
I just receibe my new soekris 5501 box. This is the first one soekris box I
have.
I'm trying to conect against the soekris box using a serial cable and from
the windows application called "hyperterminal".
I get connected, but all in the screen appears is unreadble. Something like
that:
Besides the "normal" usage of a 5501 like Firewall etc, I am currently
testing to use the 5501 as a VDR.
So far everything works perfectly but there are three question I like to
get at least addressed:
1. ACPI
The net5501 does currently not support ACPI. Are there any plans or
ideas to get this int
