Yeah it's the Bosto. What's totally weird is, it worked fine for a very long time. I can only assume something in my system updated itself and is causing an issue. I just don't get the connection between it and Softimage. It's nowhere near a Cintiq in terms of quality, but at under $700 for a 1

Let's cover both scenarios... If you are going to use a workflow where you subdivide ("smooth") the model pre-render there are some issues with the way you modeled your piece - 1) Concave Quad, and 2) 6 Pole Verts. Neither of those are going to smooth nicely and should be avoided. See here: h

Could you use the default constant shader? You can adjust overall transparency and the alpha does not accumulate when stacked. Not sure that is the best way to express the effect but it sounds somewhat like what you are looking for. The only problem may be that by default the alpha from this cut
