I doubt that the presence or lack of OD has anything to do with it. I think all the transmissions older than a certain date had the scroll. Actually, the seal is really part of the bellhousing, not the transmission. So, maybe you could upgrade an older seal-less transmission by swapping in a ne

Your analysis is correct. (But the carb leak is a red herring). The older 3-rail transmissions definitely did not have a real seal. I'm not sure when they finally added the seal. I have managed to make this same mistake a couple of times over the years. I assume your clutch chatters like crazy

The TRF Spit catalog has a page from the factory parts book that shows the optional "Continental Touring Kit". In addition to the usual hoses, belts, bulbs, etc., it includes four(!) spare engine valves (but no head gasket). I guess it was considered practical to fix a swallowed valve by the side

OK genius, you got it spot on. I know as I just replaced the voltage stabilizer and had to rehook that one last wire. Awkward guy as it keeps trying to disappear and it hard to hold as you put the nuts back on the mounts. Probably why it was not connected. Too hard for PO and they gave up mayb

Same thing - no, similar - yes. Last summer I had the starter rebuilt and found it easier to put in and take out without the oil pressure sending unit in place. My electric fue pump is wire through that unit! After replacing the starter and the sending unit I started it up and it ran for a minut
