Hello all.
Plans are in the works to gather a caravan to travel
up to Carlisle, PA in May for the Import Auto show.
We're trying to assemble groups at various locations that
can meet up along the way.
People coming up from VA and points farther south
can meet up where ever.

OK, the consensus is the trunnion bolt or bushings in the left rear wheel
area. I'm looking at the VB catalog on page 126 (Rear Suspension). Are we
talking about the bushing kit (#18) as the "joint with the plastic sleeves"?

Daniel, I know there is a Jaguar Owners of North America club and also a
main site is http://www.jag-lovers.org which has mailing lists.

Sometimes the moving parts can be partly seized up, and if you simply
try to wiggle them by hand, they will appear to be tight, but the
higher forces of acceleration, braking, etc., can cause them to
give, often with a ugly sound.
Once I had a strap-style driveshaft where the telescoping joint

I bet it's the trunnion joint (the joint with the plastic sleeves). I had the same
symptoms once, and it disappeared after I rebuilt the joint on that
side.

My 1980 Spit has been experiencing a little problem of late. Almost every
time I take off from a standing start, I hear a "thunk" from the left rear

shot out from under the tire under acceleration, hitting the wheel well. It

Thanks to all for your replies. I'm nearly certain that there is no ground
strap from the steering rack to ground. I'll bet that's the problem. I know
that there's one in the little steering knuckle, and the horns are grounded to
the rack, but the rack isn't grounded. My only question would be
Ken,
I found out by accident that the battery in my 1987 VW Scirroco 16V fits
perfectly in my Spitfire and does not hit the bonnet piece.

Folks,
I installed a set of Su's on my 71 and removed the Stromberg, I went through
all of what yall are talking about.
I went everywhere trying to figure out the cable, then someone mentioned a
bicycle shop.
If you think we are a bit pshyco about our LBC's just go talk to a bicycle

For the later-model Spits with the CV-joint propshafts, there was a
service bulletin recommending that the shaft be re-installed
with the joint in the back.
The reason for this was simply that it was difficult to slide
the bigger end of the shaft up the tunnel without getting stuck.
I doubt that
Here is another symptom: If the horn works when the key is NOT in
the ignition, but it has problems when you are actually driving, the
cause is almost certainly that little grounding strap on the
flex joint. When you have the key out of the ignition,

I had no problem using the US 1500 ZS cable on my SU's. It doesn't
matter how far the cable sticks out beyond the sleeve. Trim it if it
bothers you.

Ken,
Every car I've ever owned (incl Spitfire, MG BGT, Vauxhall (British arm of
GM), Volvo, Proton, Citroen, Audi, Suzuki, Ford, Fiat) has had brake lights
that only operate with the ignition on. Maybe what's normal in Europe is
different to what's normal in the US. I have owned 2 cars in the US
Hi Listers,
This weekend I refited the propshaft and when I rechecked the correct
position I noticed that two of my original mk3 documents, the Mk3 Part
Catalogue and the Spitfire Mk3 Handbook had completely contradictory
position for the propshaft. According to the catalogue, the telescopic
