I think the solution depends on what you plan to be listening to. If you
plan to listen to Spotty, local music files and internet radio, the
simplest way to go would be the one you've already identified - a
Raspberry Pi running LMS connected to a USB drive with a copy of your
music collection.

used to do that between my two homes, I was using and ssh tunnel, the
special thing to do on the LMS players is to manually enter the address
of the LMS server. Its a bit of a technical setup, so if youre not

Hi. I run LMS on an Ubuntu 18.04 media server. It works fine when I
stream to my Squeezebox.
Sometimes I want to stream to a desktop/laptop using VLC. Playing MP3

Are you wed to using VLC? It's a great video player, but a crappy music
player. Why not use Squeezelite instead?

Thanks for the suggestions. I'd completely forgotten about the line-in
on the Boom - a simple option.
I was also planning to grab a Raspberry Pi to run Kodi (Libreelec) on
with an external USB - so I'm chasing down how to co-install LMS with
Libreelec via Docker as an option. That would give a
