What's the best way to check a new sd card?
I Wil try to get the prefs and cache on usb stick.

I don't mind setting up piCorePlayer, it's the LMS server/player prefs
that I find time consuming.
I store LMS cache/prefs on an attached USB stick, if anything goes
wrong, I just reflash an SD card with the piCorePlayer image, boot up, a
few bits and pieces to sort out, install LMS, and you're ba

No I do not believe it does.
But if you want a "complete system" backup as you say use
win32diskimager and keep a img on a pc ready to be written to an SD
