You can also use the Webalizer Web Stats application. It handles SQUID
quite well and has a nice/usable web-based display.

Am not sure if there is any other way to increase the limit and tell a

Cache takes a considreable amt of memory which our
system cannot afford, hence the choice of disbling the
cache.
Probably it is a better idea to get one or more of cheap intel-based
machines, 1GB should be affordable with this machines.

I just upgraded my squid from version 2.5 Stable 1 to Stable 5.
Now while i am starting squid it is giving the following error.
What i am surprised is that though my squid.conf has some other directory
mentioned as its log directory then why is it pointing to the highlighted.

Well, i recommend get the file from squid-cache.org.. its
squid-2.5.STABLE5.tar.gz, dont use the rpm format so that you can patch if
anything comes up important.
After getting it, run tar -zxvf squid-2.5.STABLE5.tar.gz then cd to the
squid-2.5.STABLE5 directory to where you extracted the files.

x-forwarded-for so that i can see the indirect ip connecting to squid via
access.log but it seems i get some errors... is there any new patch for this
for squid-2.5.STABLE5?

Are that the rules on the squid-machine acting as a gateway?
If I read this correctly then all webtraffic is redirected to the proxy,
and the proxy itself is not matched in the input/ouput chain, only a
client (Accounting PC).
Your input/output default policy seems to be ACCEPT for those chains,
