My first thought was that, if the rhumb line's length is finite, it shouldn't take forever to reach the pole. Just as the hare didn't take "forever" to catch the tortoise. Speaking of rhumb lines, if my understanding of logarithms is right, rhumb lines, if extended far enough, will forever encircle either pole without actually reaching it, but the length of the line will approach a finite, not infinite, value. Kind of like Zeno's paradox, and my run-on sentences.
