Answering my own question:
Edit: /etc/lighttpd.conf
PHP_FCGI_CHILDREN = 2,
There is one parent process and 2 child processes, so setting this to
0 will result in a single instance.
The question if reducing children makes sense is still open :)

What would be the best approach to reduce CPU and memory usage of the
webserver running in the camera?
Would reducing the number of PHP instances help?
If yes, where can I change the number of instances, since 3 autospawn
killing one just triggers a new one to be spawned immediately.

Maybe it would make sense to monitor CPU load while you start
recording with/without streamer?
Could you run top on the camera in telnet/ssh?

Hi Andrey,
We purchased your network cameras to build our detection system for checking
a single object's lateral motion at a refreshing rate about 10/s. The next
goal is to increase the refreshing rate (100/s) of the object's position
(x, y). My questions are

Hello Karl,
How did the camera stop working?
The problem might be in the connectors on the 30-conductor flex cable
between the camera system board and the sensor board - you may try to open
the camera and reconnect the cable. If that will not help - you may ship the
camera to us, we should have
Jason,
sorry for our mailing list being down fro so long
The Mplayer does not control the camera fps, it can only get the stream and
either play it at that speed or slower (on low power computer) - you may

Lee,
sorry for our mailing list to be down - you probably already fighured that
out yourself - how to connect the boards.
Yes, it is possible to connect them to either connector, but then you'll
need to write those numbers to the EEPROM on the boards (then those settings
will survive reflashing
Thank you Andrey. I have a few more questions.
Where do you set the baud rate for GPS?
Which directory is the XML configuration file located in?
If I want to use auto baud rate, will the process be:
- power on Elphel
- wait until GPS gets a lock
- type 'reboot' into the console ?

Interesting. I rebooted my PC. Insured that my ifconfig was set to 192.168.0.2
for the PC.
I can PING 192.168.0.9 WHEN the camera is plugged in.
I CAN NOT ping 192.168.0.9 when the camera is unplugged.
Still having the same issue.
When I try a different WEB Browser, it just tells me the
Diana,
Could you please connect over telnet and send the output of ps command here.
Thanks,

The camera has been rebooted for over 30 minutes.
Can I manually start the web service?
Any reason it isn’t starting on it’s own?

Diana,
if you update the software from the CVS, it has the bug fixed. The bug
preventing booting camera if no sensor was detected - autocampars.php was
expecting that /var/state/stype will have
ctype=NONE
when there is no sensor, and was getting just
ctype=NONE
That will allow lighttpd to start,
Excellent! I had a loose cable to the sensor.

Diana,
Do you have 10369 board that you can watch camera boot messages on some
terminal emulator over the serial port? With that you would notice that
immediately - failure to dtect sensor and autocampars.php getting stuck.

Lee,
I'm sorry - it seems this will have to wait until I'll get to the FPGA
programming again - the easy solution I told you about will not work. I just
looked in the code - only 6 bits of the 16 bit sent over SPI are
programmable in the current FPGA code. I forgot to implement writing (just

What would the implications be for the host PC recieving the stream?
If the streamer goes to sleep for n frames... Wouldn't the host PC think
that the connection is lost?
