Can anyone tell me what the pH of BD is prior to
washing and what the lowest temperature at which the
reaction will take place is?
Dana pH of BD prior to washing can be 9 or 10 or even higher if an excess of
NaOH is used.

Some of the problems with the burner going out and oil spillage might be solved
with the use of a solenoid valve and thermocoupling in the supply line, similar
to a gas boiler where the supply line is open only while there is a flame
acting on the thermocouple and if the flame goes out the
Mr. Edward Beggs,
Well I see Dana's point. It's a fossil fuel, and it contributes the Green
House Effect. By not recycling the motor oil for recycled motor oil, we need
to buy more crude oil from our terrorist supporter suppliers (see FOX News
Channel for on going details) to meet the demand. By
I belief here is an opportunity for WVO to be brought into the picture. What
a concept. Who is going to lock up the market and become the next Getty

Ed,
You are correct, of course. It is practical.
And if all the WCO were recycled as lube oil(best use)
petroleum would have to be

It might be a good idea to look at the cost of collection, transport, the
energy used in re-refining and repackaging before we can say that re-use as
lube oil is better than burning it for process heat. The process heat has to
come from somewhere, but it could come from natural gas, which is

Would a car run on hydraulic oil waste from industry machine oil changes. This
oil also goes to waste. I dont think it has as many additives as engine oils
and is more viscous.

Yes. Slow but tough, and very suitable for SVO. Use a two-tank SVO setup,
like the one we offer. you can also use biodiesel. How much are they asking?

Paul,
It appears to me that animal fats become partailly
hydrogenated when passed through hot H2O and can then
be easily removed from the vegoil/anifat mix prior to
filtering. This might make the semi automated
production of BD much simpler.
On that note:
Does anyone have any new info on the

Hi Everyone,
I've enjoyed lurking here, educating myself from all your

biodiesel. I've read through the Tickell's book as well as read
Mike Pelly's process among others.
In the Tickell's book they mention under supplies needed: 1

Any suggestions out there as to where one would purchase 99%
isopropyl alcohol?
Try chemical reagent supply houses.

Back packers who want alcohol for their stoves get it from the vetinary
supply.
They have both grades. 91% doesn't heat very well. :)
Camping stores charge more and chemical supply houses charge a LOT more
unless you buy it by the barrel.
At least around here.
