Mike, I would stick with the standard air filter. The oily K&N might kill your expensive MAF sensor. They are prone to failing anyway on these VWs. The air flow problems are upstream when the snow screen snorkel gets plugged with sand, dirt and bugs. You might need to clean it. That's

[Biofuel] reprocessing biodiesel

I tested some biodiesel after processing it by treating it as new virgin oil and some additional glycerine dropped out. My questions are- Do I use 10% methanol and 3.5 g NaOH/liter per JTF to reprocess? Won't that cause washing problems because of the additional NaOH causing an emulsificatio

[Biofuel] chicken manure

I am trying to turn an old chicken house into a biodiesel workshop. The odor is disgusting because the chicken waste and dead chickens were left for years. I've cleaned it out and left the doors open. Does anyone have any ideas how to deodorize the old chicken shed? Should I be concerne

Pieter,It did at the beginning of the thread.  So after gently stir washing the biodiesel (with a low tech piece of wood trim) with about half part water as fuel I let it settle 24 hours and drained off the milky water.  I was happy to discover no emulsion.  I took Kieth's advice and tried Jan Warn

I processed about 60 liters after some successful test batches.  I was disappointed to discover a thick middle layer of emulsion when I did the violent shake test.  Should I gently stir wash the fuel? Reprocess it using 10% methanol w/ 3.5 grams of lye? or as virgin oil?  I know my process needs im
