go into the software; but this lets you do it in such a way that

Here is my problem, and it has been going on for a while now,
deffinately since the 9.0 days until today 9.2.
Whenever I open a program, it doesn't matter which one from the desktop,
I need to alt tab to get to the program I just opened.

Well it sure doesn't work here, and I've checked set file associations,
and that is correct.
I did Take Net Bat's suggestion and just save the file to .txt rather
than .rtf, and as it opened up in Note Pad, I was then able to select
using the shift-arrow combination, and it worked like a cha

I've never seen this or heard of anyone else seeing it. They'd all be
screaming if this were a common problem. Unfortunately I can't imagine
why launching a program from the desktop doesn't bring it into focus.

turned off." Seeing that it continues to talk and nothing seems to be amiff, I

these are also rtf files and are all graphics and can not be read with wineyes.

I removed the desktop shortcut and from the start menu, I press context
key on the program and press r for property
tab to shortcut and created a hot key,
then press ok,
and now I don't have to alt tab to get to the password entry.

It sounds like some other software is preempting those controls. I
know some video drivers use the alt arrow keys to rotate the screen,
but I haven't run into any that use the shift arrow keys for
anything. That's something to look into though.

As I said in a previous post, it's working fine here on Windows 10 no
matter how I select text. The problem is that the selected text (at
least according to the Window-Eyes cursor and mouse) is not highlighted
and does not change color. So Window-Eyes has no way of knowing that
it's selected.
I'm at a loss as to what causes this. But just out of curiosity, when
you have a few windows open and Alt-Tab through them is the desktop in
that tab order? There is, or at least there used to be, a windows theme
that did this. Although I don't recall whether or not it caused problems
for anyone.
For anyone running Windows 10 and wanting a hot key instead of the
desktop shortcut it's a little different.
Do as Manny said and open the context menu while on the item in the
start menu. Arrow up once to Open file location. This will land you on
the shortcut file in the start menu folder. Th

I used to hit the Windows key followed by the right arrow but that does not

Based on what you've posted, this probably won't work, but you can press
the on-off button on the computer itself. Don't hold the button down,
just touch it lightly.
