Usually the status of a message can be made to read by selecting the one
line view in View, Layout. This hasn't
changed, though, so maybe you are experiencing another problem. I am
getting the status of the messages read with
Window-eyes 9.1.0.0 so this isn't a
check that your apps are up to date. even with the w e update i still had a
few apps that were out of date.;;

longer telles you if a message has been read or unread?
