Take photos? I don't have an iPhone, but I believe the iPhone will geotag photos with both location and compass direction. JOSM will open the photos as a new layer and when you click on a photo will display the direction as an arrow. Even without a compass direction, geotagged photos are still a go

"drainage area". area=yes is required because the wiki page for drain: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:waterway%3Ddrain only lists way elements for it. John mentioned surface=grass. I've never seen one of these with grass. More like surface=ground/dirt/sand/gravel/
