I first met Jim about four years before I made the move from Florida to Texas
in 1974. I attended a couple of the old Rice Grotto meetings while visiting my
paternal uncle in Houston and met him then. I went on one Hill Country caving
trip with the Houston folks that he may have been on, as well
His article about a one way trip to Mars was published all over the place and
much discussed.
Jim was an incredibly interesting person. He was the first Houston caver I met.
He rode with me to my first TCR and it was the greatest road trip as Jim
regaled me with tales of his adventures caving.
As you may recall, Jim was a scientist with NASA for a number of years and an
interesting fellow. As all have said, his presence will be missed.
