Nigel,
many thanks!
That post came just handy.
I bought a cheap 527A recently that was supposed to 'need some
cleaning'. Unfortunately, the seller threw it in a large box without any
padding, so one of the front handles broke off through transit.
Nevertheless, the unit appears to 'live' but I

Hi
As far as I can see, there were very few real changes in the 527 from it's
birth through the final model. I'm amazed they still could get enough 1960's
vintage parts to keep building the same design 30 years later.

I was looking for doc on the 527 a few months ago and finally got to the
guy at Tracor who knew about it. He poinbted me to this guy:

who currently supports the units, as much as anybody still supports them.

Thanks for info! So my 527E is newer than Tracor units :-)

Hi
The 527A schematics are on the same site mentioned in the second post in this
string. (ko4bb in the manuals area, under misc test equipment).
The schematics can be a bit hard to figure out. The manual for mine goes into
great detail about the standard "built in scope" complete with schemati
I have a Tracor 527E, but marked as Tremetrics 527E. Who was Tremetrics?
Then I have a Tracor 547A, basically the same as 527E, but it has no
phase meter, and the frequency offset display is digital (an old 3
1/2 digit volmeter module, with the LSD masked :-))
Anyone has schematics for the 547A?
Hi
There's a tradeoff in the front end circuit between 100 KHz and 10 MHz inputs.
If you do not plan to use 100 KHz, you can tweak the input to do a bit better
at 10 MHz.
For both frequencies, "tuning" the multivibrators to run at the correct free
run frequency can help noise issues.

Thank you so much for all replies.

I have two of them. Very nice item to do a quick frequency
calibration between oscillators.
I feed it from an HP GPSDO, and it quickly tells the frequency
difference in parts to 10^1

Might be a cheaper solution than HP equipment as to compare 2 clocks .
