point-biserial

Good morning TIPSters! My understanding of the point-biserial correlational procedures is that it is used when one of the variables is dichotomous (e.g. female vs. male; psych majors vs. non-psych majors). I have a colleague who had a data set in which she has a "trichotomous" variable (i.e., "uppe

Assuming they are at least ordinal, you could code them 1, 2, 3 (or -56, 7, 1006, if you wanted to). You'll have a restriction of range problem that will tend to supress the final value you get for the coefficient, and the "pct. of variance accounted for" interpretation of its square will be of du

Steven: Yes, and you'll get the same r value with 1,2,3 as you will with -6, -5, -4, but not with non-equal spaced numbers (e.g. -56, 7, etcetera, as Christopher said). But be sure to create the codes so the results will be easily intuitive. If you hypothesize that income correlates with SES (lowe

Wouldn't it be more appropriate to use a Spearman Rho if you are asuming ordinality in your data? -Don. -- --- You are currently subscribed to tips as: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

survey of college stressors

Does anyone know of a survey that assesses stressful experiences of college students? I'm looking for something similar to the Holmes and Rahe scale, but that is focused on college students rather than life in general. Alternatively, I'm looking for something that assesses how well students cope
