I do know that I enjoyed working with students
one-on-one a lot more than I "enjoyed" handing out grades.

I have had a few other variations on the same theme. I allowed a student to
take an incomplete grade in a class last semester and then received this
request, followed by my response:

May I ask, can you grade all of it now and tell me what grade I'd get. If the

opportunity for the same treatment, and I just do
Thank you, Paul, Miguel, and Karl. Your answers, especially "I do not
pre-grade papers" are the answers I needed.

I routinely ask students to hand in drafts and let them know problems before
papers are due. Alas, few give me drafts and they suffer for that.

I also suggest sharing proofreading with a classmate.

This is what I love about a peer review assignment. Give the students a
rubric and identify common errors. Have them check one another's papers and
provide feedback. Savy students will think to use the rubric for
self-assessement and correction.
