Why are you shutting down the server? Why not just end the playback?

large collections. Thanks for the tip iPhone. Have you used it much
and what are your own impressions?

Hi I'm running a Touch with external Samsung My Passport drive attached.
It has fw 7.5.1 r9218. I do not run any software from my Mac.
I ejected the drive and stopped the SB server. I then formatted the
drive to FAT and added some new flac music by Pearl Jam so placed those
files in the already
Hi John,
This time, when I reviewed the listings after typing in: cd /var/log: I
had not only the messages option but also messages.0 option.
So I've listed the logs for both.
I'm assuming the repeated connection errors are telling.
Would that have to do with my wifi connection or possibly
I am not clear of the question. I turn off the computer dedicated to
music when I am not using it. The issue is not in the turning off of
the server but rather that the Touch keeps playing when it is turned
off.

I had to reformat so that i could write to it via my new Mac. Was
previously formatted to Windows.
I've just added 3 other albums and they show up. All music on the drive
is Flac. I structure my drive as root/Artist/Album/track.flac
Just don't know why some songs refuse to show up. They are
Hi John,
Further to my previous message, I tried using the shift-G command to
get to the bottom of the file and I also did this using an ethernet
connection thinking my wifi was at fault.
What I got was the following:

Why not shut down the playback before shuting down the server? Since
the Touch loses contact w/ the server when you shut that down, its
probably a bit lost as to what to do.
I have not shut down my music server in years. Its an older laptop
dedicated to music only and away in another room along
I can certainly do that. However, on all my other Squeezeboxes I have
never had to do this. The Touch are the only ones that keep playing.
With regards to shutting down the server... my preference is to shut it
down when not in use. The issue again, doesn't happen to any of my

Is there an advantage to using FLAC files rather than Apple Lossless

to be working fine, although I only have about a week's experience with
the Touch.
Looks like dbPowerAmp can convert the files

Looks like dbPowerAmp can convert the files quickly (I was really quite
pleasantly surprised by the speed, to be honest), but I'd rather not
have to keep dual copies of my files. I'd need the Apple files because
my iPod doesn't play FLAC.

I've spent hours trying to get my tracks' artwork to work on both iTunes
and the Touch's tinsysb, using at attached USB HDD.
1. I learned that tinySB uses the folder.jpg artwork in each album's
folder. I worked for hours to extract the artwork from iTunes into the
folder.jpg format. When I

I use tinySB with a USB drive, 28000+ tracks, ALL with embedded
artwork, NO .jpegs whatsoever in any folder. This works like a charm
for me.
ALL embedded jpegs are exactly 350x350.
ALL music file tags are squeaky clean using MP3tag TagRename.
I wouldn't let iTunes anywhere near my
I've got exactly the same problem on a brand new Touch, connected to SBS
running on a QNAP TS-109 NAS device.
I've checked all logins and passwords and performed a factory reset.
I cannot go into MyApps because it tells me the device is already
registered by another user but if I go to
If you want really good artwork and don't mind a bit of manual work then
www.albumartexchange.com really has no competition for quality of
images.
It's more involved than using an automated tool but the quality is
fantastic.

The attached ShortcutsMeta.lua.txt file needs to be renamed
ShortcutsMeta.lua and placed in: /usr/share/jive/applets/Shortcuts/
(Perhaps you would want to back up the old one first.)
Once the file has been installed, reboot the Touch and then activate
the new default key bindings using the
I finally have album art displaying on iTunes, my iPod, and the Touch
using tinySB -- and using the same files on each device.
Here's how I did it:
1. Removed all embedded artwork from the mp3 and m4a Apple Lossless
tracks using TagRename (month long trial period shareware).
2. Used iTunes
If I add a favourites name in picture gallery it says no files found.
Where do you define this favorite name? In Settings/Advanced/Gallery I'd be
surprised if you'd get any error message at all.
So this is what you need to do:
- go to Settings/Advanced/Gallery, define your favorite name
