I have just bought the touch after 3 years with the SB3, but I have had
nothing but problems...
I use a USB HDD, and I have different problems with accessing it.
My problem now is this. After numerous deleting af rescanning of the
HDD I still cannot access it trough the music file/music
Since you had a SB3, that also means you were using a computer running
the Squeezeboxserver program.
Why don't you use the Touch with the external computer?

You are making it more complicated than it actually is by requesting a
step-by-step tutorial!
Obtain a wifi router from your ISP. This should come with a
self-installation disk. The first installation will require an
ethernet cable connection between the router and your PC - the internet
