In his first posts the OP specifically asked for a setup that did not
depend on wifi and would be extremely stable and trouble free. Cables
are simpler than radio and more reliable .
He also had some doubts about the reliability of dhcp and routers in
general .
I've got the impression that OP even wanted to avoid all possible
problems in advance, he did want to wait untill he get a wireless
problem and then figure out how to solve it.
he also mentioned living in a third world country and power outakes ?

Of course it can work with just a router and wifi but it is not a given
that this basic setup " just works " it's evident from reading this
forum ( and owning these products ) that it is not awlays the case.

One thing I find mandatory with even the simplest system is to at least
wire the server to the router.

So most people here answered inline with these premisses, I see your
piont if OP does not undertand all
this it's not much use anyway or he will depend on someone else to
maintain it. And it can be Overkill to do all this stuff

Also we lack some info, no one here nows if OP lives in a mansion or 1
room ?

Is it really a good advice to replace flac files with mp3 ? You should
always rip to a free lossles format, kind of defeats the piont of
having squeezeboxes, if you have to compromise with this to get the
network going ?

But ofcourse just plonk in any router and run sbs on a computer would
solve most issues with trying to use the built in server in the Touch.

Switches, complicated you just atach wires and they have no settings ?
If you have a lot wired stuff you use them. I can scrap one in my setup
, but the 2 others are there to collect the wires in different rooms to
just 1 wire.
