There can be more than an issue here using the normal LMS on a computer any new and changed scan will report a completely unrelated file count that seems a bit random to me ? This includes playlist maybe also the players current playlists ? I fins this weird to. On tiny Sc you probably get a

Describe your existing network and how you're connecting wirelessly right now (albeit with buffering issues). Describe how you're physically trying to connect the Touch to the laptop using wired ethernet. -- JJZolx

To exclude the Touch hardware test it by connecting with ehthernet it to the router, it has a headphone out you may even try some music. Try connecting the laptop to the router with Ethernet while playing music, this solves half the problem . You have to go into it's network settings and fiddle
