I finally took the time to look into this matter. It's been hectic since
my initial post and I was relying on my optical cable until now.
I tried the factory reset but this didn't help.
What helped was connecting a good DIY cable I bought from a trustworthy
source. The problem was just that, my

Google Music but if it's a faff with the Touch, i'll stick with Spotify.

External DAC's are a waste of money IMO; tried a few and couldn't hear
much difference. I've recently had a massive cull of my HIFI equipment
and now just have my PC feeding music files to my Touch, which then go
to active speakers. Simple set up and sounds fantastic. Just an iPhone

Its very likely that you actually can't do that , depends on how the
