and many of these lesser (maybe less desirable to some) models are
available. You can find 2b's an ebay for around/less than $50USD. I see
a couple right now for about $35 with a case
Just to chip in, I have replaced one of my touches with raspberry pi 3b
with hifiberry dac+ pro (rca version) and can confirm sound quality is
as good as from touch.
You can also get nice steel case for it as I did

The RPi offers analog out on a 3.5mm stereo jack. It's not the "end
all" in terms of performance, but I've used it without issue in a casual

Not unless you add a "DAC" (if you're using RCA input to your stereo
(like a CD player input), or DIGI HAT (if you're using S/PDIF connection
to your DAC) to the rPi (this is plug and play too). Look at hifiberry
products, for example.

Actually, as you may have read in the thread, I have another Touch that
I was using elsewhere. It actually was not used much.
So, I moved that Touch to the main stereo that has the DAC.
This kit will be used with a small Bose
This kit -- the "4GB" version -- appears to be in stock and has almost
everything you'll need to connect to your DAC via USB:

are in US) for $200, but the screen looks a bit scratched up. I have

Thanks to all for trying to help me here. But, its goodbye to my Touch.
Luckily I have another that I can use on my main info system. I take it
there is no where to buy a new Touch? Anyhow the opening the touch cause
irreversible damage

Once you remove the metal stand (two screws), you pry the front and back
panel of the Touch apart much like opening a laptop PC case.

The reset button didnt turn on a factory reset button or reveal the
dark touch in the list of players.
The input may still have some moisture on it from the cleaning solution,
so Ill said several hours and try again.

This reminded me, dont know why I forgot.
On our unit, the plastic reset button was sticking, causing constant,
instant reboots. I discovered this after our
your op said that the touch doesn't power up (or at least the screen
doesn't come on?). A couple things:
- there is factory reset button on the back, when powered, hold the
button until (hopefully) you get a "factory reset" button.
