After much messing about I think I've got to the bottom of this.
Yes, IE8 downloads the touch firmware as a .zip file rather than a
.bin. I tried IE8 on another machine and that did the same, so it's not
exclusive to my computer (Win7). Tried it with Google Chrome and it
downloaded perfectly.
I
Here goes.
Touch firmware: 7.5.1 r9218
SBS Latest 7.6 beta, but slightly irrelevent as occurs on 7.5.x.
Touchscreen and IR remote work great, can navigate the menus fine.
If I start to use either the SBS interface, iPeng or Squeeze Commander
on Android, I guess anything that controls the touch
Can I just add that the Touch is connected via ethernet and gets it's IP
address from a Windows 2003 DHCP server that also has SBS installed.
Thanks
Gerry.

I don't see anything like that. If you're running Squeezebox Server
7.6.0 you should probably have firmware 7.6.0 r9243. Enable software
updates if they're not already. Settings Advanced Software
Updates

Thanks for the reply.
I've tried to update the firmware to the new version but it keeps
telling me I have the latest i.e. 9218 and asks me if I want to
re-install it. I'll give it another go.
Done a few factory resets, both from the interface and the button.
Thanks again.

Is the internal server running? (Do you have an SD card inserted or a
USB hard drive attached?) If so, and you're not using it, kill it.

No, internal server not running, no sd card or usb disk.
Pretty standard stuff, just use SBS on a windows 2003 server. Don't use
mysqueezebox although registered through SBS.
I have other players, namely a couple of classics, a boom and a
receiver so not a newbie at this. Even managed to setup
I wonder why the server doesn't download the latest 7.6 firmware for the
Touch. You can download it yourself from this page:
http://update.slimdevices.com/update/firmware/7.6.0/
You want the fab4.version and fab4_7.6.0_r9243.bin files. Place them
in the 7.6 server's \cache\updates folder.
Downloaded the firmware and placed it where you suggested but don't get
an option to update to it, only re-install 9218.
Now, I may be a little dim on this, should I unzip the files or leave
them as they are. I've tried both ways but neither work. If I stick
them on a SD card (un-zipped) it does

Do you have both options enabled on your server at Settings Advanced
Software Updates? Also, you usually need to restart the server in
order to
Leave them as they are. fab4.version is a small text file. You should
be able to view its contents in Notepad. fab4_7.6.0_r9243.bin is a
binary image of the firmware.
But it downloads as a .zip file, not a .bin. Does that matter?
Am I being thick?

Do you mean that it's shown on this page
http://update.slimdevices.com/update/firmware/7.6.0/
with a name ending in '.bin', but when you save it, you get a file with
an extension of '.zip'? Sounds like maybe a problem with your
browser(?)
The file should have a size of 34,023,014 bytes. If
It shows as a bin on the server but downloads as a .zip. Damn Windows to
hell and back.
We will try again Tomorrow.
Thanks JJ
