The open-source version of Desura is being developed on GitHub under the
name
Desurium. This open-source version is just not for the Linux code but for
the
Windows version too.
To build the Desura client under Linux you need the
Is there a list of removed packages somewhere we could take a look at?
Preferably the list should contain the exact reason for removal. Then we
could periodically review the situation as things change.
I just checked my cookies for the first time in many months. I'm surprised
that I have well over a hundred cookies stored. I think I'll follow your
example and use a short whitelist.
Thanks for link to Panopticlick on the EFF website. Very helpful.
Here is such a list
http://libreplanet.org/wiki/List_of_software_that_does_not_respect_the_Free_System_Distribution_Guidelines
Most of these packages are removed either because they recommend non-free
software, depend on non-free software, are useless without non-free software,
or include
I can't speak for Trisquel but I'm 99.99% certain the answer is no in this
case. According to what I can see, this is a distribution mechanism for
proprietary games.
Besides, GNU/Linux already has package managers. We don't need one that's
coupled to a specific proprietary service.
I meant for Trisquel specifically as some of those packages are included but
the issues have been worked out.
That's a good list as well though but not what I'm after.
Thanks, that looks good. Wonder if it would be a good idea to start a wiki
page on why these packages were removed, what do you think?
This probably won't ever happen. Ubuntu has their app store (backed by
their apt repo) that they want to monetize, so it would definitely not be in
their best interest to allow a competing one through. But assuming it is
included in Ubuntu, even then Trisquel would have no use for it -
Probably for the reasons I outlined above. I'm curious about compiz, though.
I don't think compiz has any non-free parts, but I've seen people here have
problems with it, and apparently it only works well with the non-free video
drivers.
That's a shame that the new Lemote is not totally free. I wonder what
Stallman has to say about it. Will Lemote continue to distribute their
totally free netbook? I believe the one you are talking about is the 13 inch
one.
i'llPass.
Agreed. Case-in-point was this past Thursday at my Authorized Mac Reseller
store on my campus. I cringed listening to a poor student salesman pitch why
a student needed a $1300+ Facebook machine; the only reason why I didn't
intervene was because I knew she needed the commission and I tend
I want to bring attention to the fact that we have a critical bug that needs
fixing. We can only do it with YOUR help! Trisquel did not meet the goal it
set of having 100 associate members by the end of 2011.
If you haven't already joined as an associate member please consider doing
so.
Also translators feel free to translate this and post it in the respective
language forums.
I just became an associate member now. I've been meaning to do so for a
while, but I kept telling myself Meh, I'll do it later. I guess now is
later enough.
I really want to contribute but here are my problems I would like to see
fixed before I do:
1. More concrete release schedule. I know that the team is small and things
can be unpredictable, but it is already 4 months into the release of Ubuntu
11.10 and no updates. Some Ubuntu based
I can't answer number one for you but on number two I can maybe answer it.
The source is obviously available on the download page. I don't know of any
current alpha or beta releases for the release corresponding to Ubuntu 11.10.
I believe it will appear soon though because the oneric
Last I heard names aren't automatically added to the list. I believe if you
(and others) just signed up quidam has to manually add them to the list.
Although I am not 100% sure on that.
I've just joined.
I'm also committing myself to increase my involvement outside of just posting
in the forum/IRC.
I hope this is going to be a great year for Trisquel!
It is possible to get people up and running on free software or mostly free
software. The trick is to make sure they have the support for it. Most users
don't know any better. You can stick a GNU/Linux system in front of them and
it is easier to figure out than a new version of whatever they
Trying to reshare this on Diaspora and Identi.ca. Guess it would be great if
all of associate members do at least the same )
