Debian/Sid lists handbrake-gtk (0.9.6-0.0) as containing libfaac0. Parabolo have blacklisted the package. Handbrake listed the inclusion of the faac encoder as a critical bug nearly 2 years ago due to licensing issues but it hasn't been addressed as yet.

When comparing encoding performance and output quality, which one is better? I ask because if ffmpeg is on the same level or better, then the removal of FAAC should happen very soon. If FAAC is better, then I can understand their decisions to keep it in there until they get ffmpeg on the

I'm not sure what a crosshair screenshot is, but all you have to do to take a fullscreen screenshot in Trisquel is press the Print Screen key. To take a screenshot of the active window, press Alt+Print Screen.

Tried that, no go. I was in Midori, hit printscreen. I expected the image buffer will be in the memory for me to paste in say mtPaint but that proved to be false. Any other thoughts? Also: In the meantime I did search on fsf, and found shutter-project.org but I don't know how to install

If you're using Trisquel Mini, the Print Screen key might not work the same way. In standard Trisquel, hitting Print Screen runs a program called gnome-screenshot, or something like that. Anyhow, it's a part of Gnome, so it's not included in Trisquel Mini.

I presume that it's been packaged without libfaac0? That's what Parabola has done.

I know with some copyrighted software like Firefox that in order to make personal changes, you cannot call it Firefox and that's why there is Icecat, Iceweasel, and Abrowser. Does this apply to Handbrake as well? Now that 0.9.6 has support for ffmpeg's AAC encoder as an option, it would be

Mirrors are exact copies of the repository. Switching to another one would not give you any more or less features. The main repository is not that of the FSF. It is in Spain. I guess the packages are sent to the FSF mirror in a matter of minutes (hours?). As a consequence, the availability

Regarding swap, I've heard this advice before, but it's never made sense to me. Applications use swap when they run out of RAM, right? If that's the case, then shouldn't you need less swap if you have more RAM?

I'm sorry, but this has to be one of the most stupid partitionings ever. You will constantly run out of space on your /home while having tons of (barely usable) space on / and only a tiny fraction of your swap will ever be used. Once the next LTS Trisquel will come out, consider

If you wish to install a different distro in the future in addition to Trisquel (e.g. Parabola) it is best to make a small home directory, as the home directory also stores application settings which might not work if you use a different version of installed packages (or the same version
