It appears to me this rep did everything possible to avoid telling you that
it wouldn't work and even attempted to mislead you into thinking it might
work. I wonder if she worked in public relations at some point because she
would be very good at it.
The facts:

Yeeloongs have a horrible battery time, because some hardware feature is not

a graphicscard that requires proprietary firmware (it seems this makes every
GUI you try to put on it extremely slow).

I'm guessing he chooses Opera because it integrates better into KDE. However,
there are ways to make all GTK based apps look EXACTLY like the KDE theme one
has in use. It also affects Abrowser.
Besides, there is rekonq, a lightweight browser for KDE.
Darn! Now I'm kind of glad that I didn't buy it. The only non-free part my
server has is just the BIOS. I wonder if coreboot will run there...
Hi,
I have a little problem, I heard nothing from softwares these several
months. Abrowser (song or video - like in youtube), orca. I put down
these ones.
But, fortunately, vlc works, mpd works...
How can I resolved this (interrogation mark) - (some others problems...)
What could it be

lightdm isn't installed in Trisquel but gdm. And the problem isn't password
but having to choose user.
What is needed is autologin. To enable it, edit (or create, dunno if it
exists by default) /etc/gdm/custom.conf, add

This thread looks very interesting. Could you font gurus create a
page on the Wiki with a list (and links) to the free/libre fonts
mentioned here? That would be a great thing to do.
Thanks,

In a nutshell, this is what happens when the kernel needs a non-free
blob to make some piece of hardware work:
* Linux-libre kernel: I'm sorry, this piece of hardware requires
non-free software and will not work with a 100% free/libre kernel.
* Debian kernel: Hey! This piece of hardware requires

Thanks, SMTP-AUTH was the solution to this. It was a PITA to set up, but I
eventually got it working with Dovecot SASL over TLS on port 587.

I don't know any such feature (there is a kernel option to use a less
reliable timer that saves some power, it's probably not important
enough).

The wikisend link worked like a charm :) thanks a lot again!
I've read a lot about the wifi freedom issues on laptops here on the forum,
and decided to find out if it was possible to swap the wifi card on the
Macbook Pro. My regret keeps piling up.
It's absurdly complicated:
all this sounds so horrible, i wanted to use a all free software computer...
so whats the more practical way i can use almost all-free software in my
computing?
mmm the problem is that im in mexico and the import is gonna make it cost the

Click the Thinkpenguin link to the right of this text. They sell hand picked,
relatively free software friendly stuff. And donate a part of their profits
to Trisquel.
Have you tried how Trisquel works on your current machine? One idea would be
to walk to a computer shop and try those machines using a Trisquel live CD or
USB if they let you.
3D accelerated graphics and wifi are the parts that give us the most gray
hair.
What's a good way to test 3-d accelerated graphics, using a Trisquel
live medium, on a strange computer? I think it works, on mine, only
because GNOME Shell seems to work.

Probably by running Compiz or a game that requires 3D acceleration such as

QUESTION:Where would you actually get a Lemote Yeelong Notebook from ?
I have actually purchased one and it's sitting in the corner awaiting testing
.. although getting 'spare parts' for these devices is neigh-on impossible as
far as I know.
I'm curious to know how you would obtain
Bingo! I hope that you will be satisfied with Montserrat.
Yeah, I'm aware of that option. It will probably be the way out for me, I

How good will it work?
Hi !
I just downloaded the trisquel 6.0 iso and installed it in a virtualbox on my
ubuntu machine. But, for instance, the wheel on my mouse doesn't work. Do I
need a set of 'guest additions' ? I don't imagine there is such a thing for
trisquel. Am I out of luck ? I've used linux of various

You can install coreboot on it!
You don't need to burn a disk. You can use UNetBootIn to create a live USB.

It actually won't be much more expensive than had you purchased it locally.
There is a VAT rate of 16% although this is collected locally in Mexico too.
The only thing not collected if purchased locally is the customs processing
fee of 0.8%. That is a mere $4 USD on a $500 laptop or $8 on a
It isn't that simple to do. You have to have a specific X60 revision for it
to work.
I don't think the kernel is quite that specific. It'll only say it is missing
firmware rather than where to get non-free firmware. Debian on the other hand
does have some parts in which it is wording it along the lines you have
described such as during the installation process. It does that
No.

You should be able to find the same basic networking stuff.
