This was my initial concern as well but if I'm reading the trisquel bug and
this changelog right, the upstream removed faac.

For PGP, try this:

That's how I learned to do it.
Why not use GPG on the command line to encrypt & decrypt message text? Should
be easy to copy & paste stuff between terminal & web browser.
It's probably not a good idea to provide builds of non-free software, let
alone advertising it here. (HandBrake uses the faac encoder, which is not
free.)
Hello everyone,
Ok, so, I need to make sure that I don't screw up with my "anonymous
encrypted email".
Basically, from what I understand one could install thunderbird/icedove,
install enigmail and torbirdy, and use an email on Tor hidden service (like
mailtor) to send and receive GPG encryp

In this community, people refer to - what you call - proprietary programs
whenever they hear "proprietary software".

I had the same problem gnewsense.
For now I think I am going to stick with ubuntu and when I'm due for a new
computer get something that is HARDWARE compatible as well as a truely Free
OS.
Thanks so much for your help, I really appreciate it.
I entirely agree with you. The "hole" I found on data to treat it as software
you can understand it in the following example.
Eg: You login in Trisquel and enter Gnome. There's a wallpaper as part of
that (your) desktop. If it were not there, the OS is not working

One thing you could try is installing a newer Linux-libre kernel, e.g. from

i agree. software != files. RMS certainly makes this distinction, re: game
(software/program) and the files (art).
I have never thought of simple data as being "software". I don't know if
that's historically true from an etymological point of view, but that really
doesn't matter.
My perception is and has always been that "software" is special data that
takes part in making computers actually work, i.e.

I have to disagree. Wallpapers are software (for me). Something executable
would make it a program and program is not a synonym of software (again for
me). Not all software is a program but every program is software.

Wallpapers aren't software in most cases. It's non-functional data -

I'm kinda new on Trisquel comunity (not the OS)... What's that Trisquel blog

This is wonderful! Many thanks indeed :)
About the HDD: Any HDD would work. Most of them include some software
nowadays (mostly for Windows but some others also for Mac).
As you can guess those software are non-free. But the good news are that the
word "FORMAT" exists and it will work great. You can (re)format the HDD with

Is there a Trisquel KDE version, or LXDE only ?
I think I understand that LXDE is a mini version.
Is it true?
Otherwise can you tell me where download a KDE edition?
Thanks, Luca.

For those missing Handbrake (a free software video transcoding tool) from
repo, I am now providing stable builds for both 32, and 64-bit edition of
Trisquel. I thought I would rather share this here, since the bug tracker
does not bring up closed issues by default.
