That's sounds great. So shred will write random data to the disc and overwrite all old data (prventing recovery of that data) until the disc is full. :D

The tool you're talking about was from the Trisquel devs, and it was dropped in Trisquel 7. You now need to enable Compiz by yourself. The script is pretty simple, though, so you could copy it from Trisquel 6 to Trisquel 7, or 8 (whatever you upgrade to next), or just read it to understand

Could you be running out of (memory + swap)? In that case it could've been the oom (out of memory) killer. You should find his calling card in the logs.

As lembas pointed out, it seems to me that you are running out of mem. Check your mem and swap. If you don't like it, you can disable the reader thingy by toggling this to false in about:config- reader.parse-on-load.enabled

So I did this, and now I have IceCat 31.7.0 running on a fairly old Trisquel 6 install. Every time I try to use it to go to the Trisquel site, it crashes. I suspect it's something to do with LibreJS, as when I turn it off, Trisquel works fine. I had a similar instability issues with IceCat

What's wrong with just using shred? It overwrites the entire drive with random data, effectively wiping it. On the other hand, if you want that feeling of cleanness, then dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/drive does the trick. These two are by far the simplest and most effective solutions to my knowledge.

Simply grab the ISO and see yourself. I for one did experience horribly slowdowns in the three various maps I tried with two bots. The original Xonotic scales very well and is know to work well on older systems. The ChaosEsque mod seems a lot different here to me. It adds lots of new models

-z with shred will overwrite with zeros on the final pass if you really want to. But its not nescessary especially if you are going to use the disk again for reinstall. -n tells it how many passes to do. (default is 3 passes) so shred -n 1 -z -v /dev/sda will probably take like 4 hours
