Hi there! Sort of unrelated question: how is the performance on your laptop
with libreboot?
Just to confirm, you mean just executing 'rm -rf .config && mv .config.bck
.config' and continuing to reconfigure as per normal use..?
Just to add, i also had a problem of not being able to graphically see my
hard disk partitions (but able to see them being filled in system settings).

Hi,
I've read that for video editing (and/or 3D rendering), it's much better to
start at 16 GiB of ram instead.
8 is possible, but might be not enough for heavy duty editing.
For gaming, I suppose 8 Gib of ram is enough though.
Also you'd need a strong CPU chip. I mean the strongest, the

Not any ThinkPad, only the X60, X60s, X60 Tablet, X200, R400, R500, T400, and
T500. And there's also the MacBook 1.1 or MacBook 2.1.
For clarity, it's likely never going to be possible to get a newer computer

Greetings ladies and gentlemen:
I want to buy a laptop. I want it to be capable of running Doom 3, Xonotic,
The Darkmod, etc... on high settings.
I also want it to be able to edit videos (is 8 ram enough?).
Can any of the libreboot laptops fulfill with that? If so which, which one

I don't think you want a laptop for editing video. This is a very CPU
intensive process. Plus, uncompressed video is huge and you'll need a lot of
storage. For libreboot-supported machines look at the ASUS KFSN4-DRE. Dual
hex core CPUs and 64GB of RAM should be enough for such a task. :)
LibreOffice is copylefted, whereas OpenOffice is distributed under a

Well, newer kernels mean less tested kernels, i.e., there is a higher
probability to face stability issues.
Hi! I've just installed the latest linux-libre kernel (4.2.2) in Trisquel 7
(from jxself.org), to replace the 3.16 version that's available in the
official repos. I haven't experienced any improvements or regressions but I
wonder if the upgrade was a good idea or not. In particular I wonder
Pros? You get support for newer hardware. Someone with Skylake for example
will need 4.2. Your Macbook is already well-supported by the Trisquel kernel

Another pro? Newer kernels bring interesting new features for programs to

My guess is you're going to be stuck with medium settings for game graphics,

I just tried but it didn't work. One possibility would be to map it to a key,
like left click + ctrl = middle click. I don't know how to do that though.
Try it after thissynclient RTCornerButton=2
The nice thing about the 4.2 kernel is that all of the features of the Xbox
360 and Xbox One controllers work (rumble and LED support) via wired or
wireless thanks to a patch that Valve pushed upstream. If you are a gamer,
this is a great feature.
On the contrary - The kernel named Linux gets extensive testing prior to
release via a variety of methods and people. It is stable on release.
The only fully supported graphics hardware is from Intel, and it's
integrated, so it's much slower than a dedicated graphics card that would be
fully supported (Nouveau still can't reclock any Fermi or Kepler graphics
cards).

What are Greg Kroah-Hartman's stable kernels for if not for stability?
You were talking of stability issues. Stability issues are (to me) along the
lines of kernel panics and the like. These should be exceedingly rare in
released versions due to the extensive testing that goes on during
development. Maybe you didn't mean stability issues? :)
Only some HTML can be used for post formatting

We seem to be talking of different things here. Not all problems result in
stability issues (i.e. a kernel panic that brings the entire system down.)
That to me is a stability issue. Otherwise it is not a stability issue but
something else - some other form of bug.

This is only true to some extent. Otherwise what are Greg Kroah-Hartman's

I used to play Xonotic on a very cheap laptop from 2007 which has a Celeron
processor. It worked fine as long as the settings weren't too high. I can't
imagine a much higher-end laptop from around that time not being able to do
at least decently with it.
