I honestly don't remember, and come to think of it, it might not even have been a bug; I had problems with Trisquel 6, too, so I might be mixing some of these up. In any case, something was interrupting my workflow constantly in Trisquel 7.

If you use Pidgin then you can use XMPP (a.k.a. Jabber). Of course that is older and perhaps inferior to some of this new stuff, but it's still what I use on desktop and mobile.

This OS is based on the Alpine Linux, which is not a libre distro. My guess is that it runs blobs for wifi, gps, and so forth. At least it seems that way from the notes posted.
