Pull request done!
On a sidenote: the instructions at Libreboot for making pull requests,
https://libreboot.org/git.html#how-to-submit-your-patches-via-pull-requests
are VERY useful. I recently heard that a large part of people starting to
work in software development have never heard of
You're welcome. I have been quite busy and lazy lately so haven't added the
documentation to libreboot yet. Those scripts are based on one from the Arch
Linux wiki. I'll see how to add these... Probably as files in
resourses/utilitities/x200t-screen-rotation + a mention somewhere else?
Okay, my bad. Here's a more detailed explanation. First of all you need to
have packages installed which provide "xrandr" and "xsetwacom". These are
probably "x11-xserver-util" and "xserver-xorg-input-wacom". I already had
them installed so no problems there. A possible reason why the above
I recently bought that x200 tablet from Minifree. Previously I had a 32bit
x60s with libreboot, and it was worth the upgrade! The battery lasts 6 hours,
and Minifree shipped an extra one. So 12 hours on the go! The wacom screen
works well. I can make my notes on the screen instead of paper,
My understanding is this: The issue is related to unclear licencing of the
Chromium project. Basically many files there do not mention explicitely which
licence they are under. Then this propagated to qt-webengine according to
some. People seem very divisive on this issue. Some say that
I guess that the old instructions which used "sudo dpkg-reconfigure
keyboard-configuration" caused this to happen:
- adds the line "KEYMAP_TOGGLE=lv3:enter_switch" to "/etc/vconsole.conf"
However there was maybe a recent update which made this line stop working. At
least it stopped working

I have dedicated one laptop (Macbook2.1 with Libreboot) for photography. I
have Parabola there instead of Trisquel, so this advice might not apply.
Here's what I use:
- for photo tagging, organizing and modifying: darktable
- for touching single images (both RAW and jpg): rawtherapee
I struggled with that issue two years ago. For Trisquel there is a good
solution: run "sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration" and then in one
of the menus choose something like "Use Keypad Enter as AltGr".
I.e. the issue is that the Macbook 2.1 keyboard does not have an AltGr-key.
After thinking about this for a while I do agree that this does not satisfy
common requirements for libre hardware currently. After all, if I wanted to
manufacture the computer card I would not be able to do so.
However on my personal opinion I think that this is like putting the cart
As far as I understood lkcl keeps part of the files needed for producing the
circuit boards unpublished until later on. They are NOT under a proprietary
license. That would require them to be published first.
Moreover even though he used a proprietary software for designing, that's
his,
Congratulations on reaching 40k!!!
It seems you could use Blender for that. At least there are many people using
blender for interior design. For example

You can indeed use the Guix software on ARM, however there's only
instructions on how to install the GuixSD operating system on x86. I can't
wait for someone to port it to ARM! Perhaps I'll take a look into it once the
EOMA-68 is sitting on my desk!
Also, it would be a nice learning
I have been using Parabola on my main work laptop for two years now. Not a
single time did I have any problems that would cripple the system.
Occasionally (for me, it happened 1-2 times in two years) some package
updates to a newer version while another one still would like the old
I am very worried about the crowd funding. 25% of the days have gone by but
only 17% is funded. Is there really only so few people interested in this? I
think it might be because of a lack of publicity. If it were not for these
forums (and the newsletter from ThinkPenguin) I would have
Using that did not change anything: removing that option from the 20150518
release did not fix the issue on my laptop. On the other hand removing it
from the grub.cfg of the rom that I compiled in the first post did not make
things worse. I will send a more detailed report to the mailing
Done!
I have some good news for those of you who have a librebooted macbook 2.1 and
ran into the issue of "--MORE--Unknown key 0xff detected"-spam when starting
the laptop. That issue might be fixed now. For more details about the problem
I refer you to:
https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/macbook
According to http://libreboot.org/faq/#external-gpu it seems that the nonfree
VBIOS might already be on in the ROM of the graphics card. Seabios will just
execute it blindly. If the payload was GRUB, then this proprietary blob
should be included when compiling coreboot.
I have never changed anything in the /etc/rc.local, so I can't give any
advice on that.
On my laptop I disabled the gnome settings daemon for the mouse, and use the
/etc/X11/xorg.conf file that I posted in this thread. The bad thing about
disabling the mouse settings daemon is that you
Some more updates: the issue of "--MORE-- Unknown key 0xFF detected." came
back a long time ago but I was too lazy to report it here. I believe it might
be caused by one of these: a) faulty hardware in my case, or b) the grub
settings I use. I am not yet in a mood to investigate more. So far
Thank
you for the information. Anyway I was curious to see what my MAC
address was supposed to be, so I removed the battery and peeked at the
sticker below it. It seems that taking the battery out for a while made
the "unknown key" error disappear, at least for the moment.
Oh, and by the way,
Wow hey I have to thank you guys for opening this topic again! Seems that
three-finger tapping works! I read the manual of synaptics, and after trying
"synclient TapButton3=2" it works!!
The issue is that although I have Option "TapButton3" "2" in my xorg.conf the
three-finger tapping
I wrote a small guide for myself on making the keyboard and touchpad work
well earlier. I'll post it here, I won't have time to upload it to the wiki
today anymore:
How to make the macbook keyboard use the Keypad Enter (the key to the left of
the left arrow key) as an AltGr?
-
It might be caused by Libreboot. I suggest you try and install an earlier
version.
See http://libreboot.org/docs/tasks.html :
X60: on the latest coreboot-libre update lately (during June 2015), keyboard
works intermittently. Bisect and fix.
Since you have Libreboot installed your computer first boots grub that's
located on the flash-chip of your X200. That grub will look for its
configuration in a file called grub.cfg. That file is also located in the
flash chip, in a file system called CBFS.
In the menu-entries of the grub
I wouldn't keep my hopes up:
1) they keep talking about open source and open source installers
2) it is from Intel
3) I could not find source code for binary blobs that exist in their
repositories
If I'm wrong please correct me.
After reading some more of the current Libreboot documentation I don't think
that the flash chip will decide your MAC address. That seems to be the case
only for the laptops having the Intel GM45 chipset. However I'm not sure. See
here:
Bluetooth works. I'm trying it from a Trisquel 7 live usb.
My next project is to try to see how GuixSD will work on it. I'm in no hurry
though :)
I installed version 20150518 today and that seems to have solved the issue
with starting the computer. No matter how many times I tried, I could not get
the extremely annoying --MORE--Unknown key 0xff-message to appear.
If you are using a non-encrypted connection and an open wifi-network (without
encryption like WPA) then anybody in the same network can capture all your
messages.
Even when using WPA someone could just have set a router with a stronger
signal close to you and your computer will then
I did not notice a big difference in the brightness between 3.14 and 4.0.
However now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure that it was an older
version of libreboot that had problems with the screen. If the brightness is
at minimum + 2, there's no problems now. At minimum it's too dark to
I updated to jxself's linux-libre32, version 4.0.0-gnu.pae. The touchpad
seems to behave somewhat better. Two-finger scrolling used to be a very
painful experience, but now it is acceptable. I would recommend using the
latest kernel.
One more thing: three-finger tapping still does not work.
I could not get Unity to work. I do not know if it's because of a lack of 3D
acceleration or because I just didn't manage to configure it properly. I
followed the advice of

Some more comments:
I have had similar problems with the x60s battery as described above, i.e.
sometimes it would not seem to charge when the laptop stays on. This was
always resolved by turning the laptop off, taking the battery off for a few
minutes, putting it back in and letting it
I have a macbook 2.1 with libreboot from 2015-02-08 installed. These are some
remarks that I have with using libreboot on it:
- The webcam does not work without a non-free firmware blob.
- The battery lasts only a couple of hours compared to the 6+ hours I get
from a libreboot x60s bought
The Macbook touchpad needs a lot of fine-tuning to make it comfortable to
use. I installed libreboot on mine (from 2008) and spent half a week trying
to find proper settings.
I ended up with the Xorg settings described at the end of the section on
Macbook 2.1:
I am not sure using copyright law would be the right way to go to prevent
people killing each other or hacking into others' systems. There are other
laws for that. People also usually behave ethically regardless of the status
of the nation's laws.

You could do this:
1) partition the disk into three: a) grub-partition, b) your partition, c)
his/her partition
2) first set the grub-partition as the one to boot from
3) install your system on your patition using LUKS and LVM or any other way
you want to use with encryption

Coreboot includes non-free blobs. Without those you are looking at Libreboot:
http://libreboot.org/
It currently supports the Lenovo ThinkPad X60/X60s, the Lenovo ThinkPad X60
tablet, some of the Lenovo ThinkPad T60's, and finally Apple Macbooks 1.1 and
2.1.
You can get the parabola ISO's from here:

In july their main repository had extended maintenance, and about a month ago
their homepage redirects to the wiki. I have not heard the reasons for doing
so.
I've used AbeBooks and Alibris. You can search for books at
www.bookfinder.com and occasionnaly there'll be even other booksellers.
Good book-hunting!
It seems booting into USB is buggy currently. In the readme included in the
sources I found this sentence: GRUB2 USB support is buggy/temporamental at
the time of writing
I also get the high-pitched noise when trying to boot using the SeaBios.
Seems I got some links mixed up. For watching Youtube, these should be the
two links:

About my battery: it lasts 3 hours with wifi on and charges up in two.
I bought one too from Francis Rowe and wrote a review. I'm going to quote it
here since it's relevant and may have useful information:
I ordered an x60 with 3GB ram and 120GB SSD from the Gluglug before
Christmas. The Fedex shipment arrived to Finland a couple of days later. Here
