One way out with BIOS updates is to look for a DOS update. Than you stand a
good chance with booting with one of the Free DOS flavors. You can even ask
the maker of the board for help in using the DOS app.
I haven't done this in a while. Last time I did it there were both Windows
and DOS
Freedom asks a high price -- knowledge.
Knowledge can help you a great deal in life, or it can make you so depressive
you might find life ain't worth living. Knowledge, apart these risks, comes
with quite a high price too -- time and energy.
Or you can cheat and pay your way in by buying a
Tor Button. Now it comes only embedded into Tor Browser Bundle. This way your
freedom is even better protected with the price of less bling.
And they liked it?
From experience, people don't like an evangelist if they are not inclined in
that particular direction as the evangelist. Not knowing much about FSF and
Trisquel looks more like a ill intended prank.
Dude, I'm sorry. You are wasting my time. And most probably wasting your own
time too. Bye.
For the chips you stand a better chance with the Linux community. And some
times with the comments in large stores like Amazon. True, most makers don't
say a thing about the contents. And they are right to do so. This way they
can write on the box their card catches signal 1-2 meters away
The USB thingie gives you the best control money can buy. It's as good as
Ethernet. Because you know what? When you want it off, it's off. No more
trouble if the soft keys are recognised by the system. No more trouble what
if the hardware button actually works. Do you want to save power?
I know it is a long shot in the dark, but any chance this is caused by a
graphics card mode settings by the kernel? Could you test a Trisquel
Live CD with more verbose output and nomodeset enabled?
It's a good shot in the dark. One side of the issue is the graphics card
which needed newer
Out of curiosity, where can one acquire a 1005PC as they seem out of
production.
Do you know for a fact that ldlc laptop can run Trisquel out of the box? How
about coreboot?
ISTR an FSFE newsletter lauding a French user enforcing their right to buy
a laptop without Microsoft Windows. So, please, whatever you do buy - don't
pay 'Windows Tax.'
I'm puzzled by the French so far. They have such forward initiatives, and yet
others are so backward.
Two years ago I
About two years ago I was thinking the same thing as you do. I discovered
that I need a larger bag to carry it. That the large surface of the cover can
bend in the middle as much as to see waves on the screen. That the power
needed to light up such a surface eats up the extra battery making
You should upgrade. But you probably already know that. The 3.5 lacks vidalia
tho.
Nice. I do that for bikes and anything I can fix and change myslef. For high
tech I need refurbished. Even if it's only a cleanup and a new battery.
As far as I know there is NO equivalent to Microsoft Publisher.
Some people have mentioned Scribus, but Scribus is the equivalent of a
complete Desktop Publishing, say InDesign or Quark. Maybe LibreOffice Writer
has some of the functions, but none of the templates.
Also, you should think
It's not about signatures. It's about what comes AFTER the kernel. The init
scripts. Also, each major distribution has a particular choice of drivers
according to their policy. Some are tolerant with some proprietary code, some
bundle code they're not supposed to. Minor derivates only work
Never took that into consideration. Chromebook means Google. And Google made
Android. I have been suspicious from the start with the always positive
attitude towards Android. Everywhere it is written Linux to imply FOSS, to
receive a TiVo device with closed apps. This last year the news were
I recall an Ukrainian maker doing some small (5) readers some years ago
based on free software. Actually, like Android, ALL readers are based on free
software. Only they put proprietary stuff on top to make sure you are locked
away for good. Mostly is the Adobe junk, the major exception
The update is impressive. Will the new orders come with this new
configuration?
I run Tor on a few flavors of Win7, also Win XP and a couple of GNU/Linux
distributions, including Tails. Even Tor I use in all its three states:
alpha, beta and stable. To make things worse, some run with all scripts
disabled, a few have extensions added.
The firewall should block
Read only access doesn't fight spam?
Sorry, but you seem to have a prejudice. I don't know a site for which the
administrators have made a conscious decision to block Tor. Take Wikipedia
for example. They block any open proxy they find out. That is their policy.
And, as both code and text are free, anybody is free to make an
Again, thank you Andrew for the bug report. Being for the first time I had no
idea Tor was Ok before. Now it's fixed.
Cheers!
I keep reading about how free software *should* protect people from anything
from the big bad wolf to the NSA. Probably is just a lack of education. In
the race to get the latest, the biggest and the coolest diploma people with 6
to 20 years of schooling remain in ignorance on most issues
Yes, I am sure, because most people here do not have a computer with a free
BIOS. That's why many people are interested in glug project and someone
talked about getting a lemote. Almost everyone here who runs Trisquel, runs
proprietary software, at least in the form of BIOs (even if not
Maybe an older laptop with the appropriate readers and no outside connection
would fit the bill. Ten times heavier. But with a 32GiB stick you can carry a
few tons of books.
Otherwise you can tweak some light distribution NOT to use the installed
disks or the network hardware and that's
I had no idea there is a CC 4.0. 3.0 fit me well. That is not a good reason.
Back in the days when GPL v3 was fresh it was unclear why to upgrade. Years
later I found out what TiVo was. I am still against the phrasing GPL vX and
any later version.
The problem is not so much the ability to ship, but the perceived insurance
«in case anything happens». It's easier to send the laptop in the same
country and even monitor the traject. If they are nearby I can even go to the
shop myself. This is why I would like some dealer in France. But I
Never crossed my mind such an issue would be already reported. Glad to meet
another Tor user!
Thank you GNUser for your input. Only there's no such problem in my case.
Debian 6 is out of the question, the kernel is too old. But Debian 7 does
work, till it freezes. Tails, which is Debian 6 with a recent kernel had some
issues, now it goes without a problem. Ubuntu I don't touch
Yea, but who is going to pay the exchange tax, the VAT, the eco tax and any
other tax the EU is going to put on that laptop? Than who is going to pay for
the price of sending back the laptop if anything happens? And who is going to
pay for a replacement during that time. Y'know,
Thank you andrew. That's the best way to handle it.
I'm a newcomer and I have no idea what threads are you talking about. But if
the Trisqel community can't hold its viewpoint at home, on its own territory
without bullying and censorship (you can call that moderation) than what
chance does it stand outside with paid tech editors, advertising
Hello guys!
My laptop is getting old. And I'm sick of it. I bought it from a supermarket.
It was a great deal. A 17 screen for about 400€. Everything is good as
long as I stick with Windows. On Linux it does not work. Trisquel doesn't
even end the boot process. Fedora 18 or newer runs
I normally use Tor for my browsing. I noticed I am unable to even read the
Trisquel forum while on Tor. Why is that? Not all users are bad. It's not
that different from a proxy or VPN.
