amule is there in Debian stretch but not stable.
What problem did you have with setting up ssh? It has always worked fine for
me.

This is a good overview of the WebKit situation:
https://blogs.gnome.org/mcatanzaro/2016/02/01/on-webkit-security-updates/
I am pretty certain Midori isn't in Debian 8 due to a an unresolved bug at
the time of release, or something. It's in backports but I never found it to
be very stable, as it crashed on big websites e.g. YouTube and (agh)
Facebook.
Perhaps it is for the better. I don't think being able to
Yes, at least, Debian has a formal policy on WebKit updates.
"Debian 8 includes several browser engines which are affected by a steady
stream of security vulnerabilities. The high rate of vulnerabilities and
partial lack of upstream support in the form of long term branches make it
very
I quite agree.
Certainly! See the fact Midori & Trisquel Mini.
https://trisquel.info/es/issues/20634
That's newer and didn't exist at the time the decision to use Ubuntu was
made.
...and I should also add to the above post, that Ubuntu only provides support
for the "main" repository.
Yes! If that crowdfunding campaign comes through, and Trisquel supports ARM,
maybe we'll see Trisquel on the BeagleBone Black sometime!
Wrong: https://wiki.debian.org/LTS/
Support for Ubuntu LTS is five years, while Debian is only two. That should
be reason enough to use Ubuntu based distros for desktop and server.
Debian testing gets packages from Unstable after they are deemed to be
adequately free of major bugs. Then development slows down after a year or
so, as the packages are frozen and bugs are ironed out, and configurations
tested, etc.
So it isn't as "unstable" as Unstable, but it does change
debian testing changes that often?
didn't know that. I Thought it was unstable debian that changed frequently...
Actually debian supports more architectures, so maybe when debian 9 or 10
comes out we should support it.
Especially if my thoughts on that campaign are true.
The reason I understood and agreed with Trisquel being base from Ubuntu is
popularity. Ubuntu's popularity is huge. Thanks to that it is easy to find
help and support on the Internet and it's tested by millions.
Another vote for Debian :)

Well, since he is almost done with making trisquel 8, i would agree.
but in the future, I would disagree heavily.
ps, I love the avatar you have.
I don't see a need to change to Debian, it works just fine the way it is.
I thought ubuntu was based off of debian unstable though...
Ubuntu is based off Debian testing. It is a true 'fork' that is updated every
6 months, as opposed to Trisquel's deblobbing effort of Ubuntu.
There's no point basing directly off testing/unstable as they constantly
change as new packages are added and library versions often change. To this
The only thing I don't know about though, is if debian lts is better
supported than ubuntu in updating packages...
Actually though... I had a thought...
its just a foolish idea probably,
but maybe base trisquel off of debian unstable or debian testing.
that is just my idea though and it
I use both, but I had some problems with Debian, it has no aMule packages,
but I installed aMule manually. And ssh is very painful make to work, in
Trisquel ssh works out of the box.
The good of Debian, is that it is compiled for ARM and PowerPC(but Ubuntu
based PowerPC distros work much
Another vote for Debian :)
I don't get the notion that Debian is better than Ubuntu. Both Debian and
Ubuntu segregate libre from proprietary software (though I think Debian's
definition of what constitutes "free" is better), and both generally have a
good selection of software... except Ubuntu has a better selection

Heh, this post ^^
Debian FTW :D
Hi everyone
I thought that it couold be a good idea to create a survey to ask Trisquel
users if they that Trisquel is based on Ubuntu instead of Debian.
I perfectly understan that Trisquel is a Quidam project and that he wants to
base it on Ubuntu but I think tha could be interesting to
