I used a normal external harddrive. I copied the whole home directory to it.
I have a good backup now.
I use a dedi server to store / share my files in Nextcloud and run a separate
dedi with Nextcloud fully federated, .i.e. back-upped :)

If your home folder is not big or you don't need incremental backups, do it

I just wanted to say that Trisquel 7.0 is based off Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr
and while it is 3 years old. It is still supported until 2019-04.

Even through the unreleased Trisquel 8 has the tool to create Snap packages
via Snapcraft, Trisquel 7 and 8 have the snapd package to run Snaps.
Since there isn't going to be a community repository and PPAs can be sketchy,
why not have Trisquel run its own Snap portal and modify the Snap
It might be. I never tried it though.
See if the Trisquel wiki has something about it.

The GNU dd command line you posted is right (that is: "of=" must target
the whole device because the disk image file was made in such way to be
used in that place).
The "destroyed partition" is expected, it's only understood during boot.
Try booting the "destroyed partition", it should work.
