Glen,
Good thoughts here as always, thanks. Right now, the UV db is not fully
replicated to the MSSQL tables, rather the other way around (for the
most part). The ISAM WCS tables also update UV. Therefore, at present,
the UV db comes closest to being the reference, and it still runs the
business.
Robert, Janet,
Thanks for these mind expanding contributions to the discussion. I
rejoice with you at these successes, as we do for all our MV colleagues.
I trust I and others will benefit from your insights as we get the
opportunity, with similarly challenging projects, hopefully in the not

Hello Baker,
We have a customer who is processing tens of thousands of transactions a day.
These transactions are centralized on SQL Server so that the Oracle ESB,
UniVerse and Web Systems can share the data. The key LOB Application is on

Using Jet Directs wasn't the problem, it was the managment drivers on the
server that caused the problem. We just removed that software package, but
still used the Jet Direct servers. We just added the printers as local
printers creating a simple Tcp/ip port for each print server and then

No. See my previous post. I hope I've clarified things well enough.

Boy, that would be a problem. Nearly all of my 150 system-wide printers are
on Jet-direct boxes.
Did you remove all Jet directs or did you find some new non-HP driver ?

Hi Baker,
In response to: " make an almost convincing argument to do it on the dedicated
target "
If the target is another shared system, then it is often not a good candidate
for this type of thing. I guess what I've often seen is a dedicated processor
on a workstation that was used to trans
I think the only real problem that might be anticipated is if you use HP
drivers, you might expect having to reboot fairly regularly to clean up
memory leaks.
I'm not sure if it affects Unidata, but on uniVerse, the HP drivers,
specifically JetDirect drivers, caused one system I migrated to an MS
HAHAHAHAH DON'T DO IT...just kidding. We just completed this migration
and for the most part, it was fine, we mainly had issues with our 3rd
party applications that were designed for Unix platforms. We had to
rebuild all of our indexes, and of course run convdata, convidx, etc.

Hello all:
Anyone ever do a migration of Unidata from AIX to a Windows platform ?
If so, what kind of problems could be anticipated ?
UD 6.1.17 AIX 5.3.5
Thank you,

Sorry Bill,
but I'm going to jump in here and start a flame war. I think you're
muddling up (MV) set theory with basic programming style and the
properties of the U2 compilers. From what I read it seemed that your
assertion was that you should only use equates when it is equated to a
variable? Whi
Hi Bill,
We came across something like this sometime ago. The error message is
caused by entries being left in the uvtemp directory, but that is just a
symptom. In reality, the problem is that a phantom or background process
that opens a file and then executes another process seems to corrupt a
Bill,
I think this is something to do with Multi-Threaded sorts you need to disable
it in uvconfig. I understand all issues with this are sorted at about 10.1.24

So, now the question becomes how much (time/effort/$) is it worth

There is some confusion in the market place as to what raid 0+1 and raid 1+0
are - in fact most times they are the same.
I think the confusion stems from you looking at it either from the os point of
view or from the hardware side of things.
Many h/w vendors (like dell) approach it from the har
Baker,
Given the scenario you have just outlined, and my imaginings of the way
that each of the 3 systems SHOULD work, you have no likelihood of
deadlock collisions (this could be guaranteed with possibly relatively
minor "tweaks" to all sides of the equation).
If you want a "solution", I just ne
My understanding is that a raw socket, using ANY of the protocols
mentioned or the home-brew options you suggest, will fail if there is
nothing on the other end of the pipe. This is where the additional
layers of products like MQ come into play --> sockets may form part of
the plumbing, but they ar
