Hi all:
Was wondering if anyone has had any luck running VMWare Server (their free
Virtualization product which runs on top of Windows or Linux) to run
multiple instances of UV on one piece of hardware. Any performance issues?
We're going to do an experiment shortly with a powerful server and
Hi,
Quick question - is there a way I can restrict UniAdmin to simply Locks
and Users (for particular workstations) and leave every other function
disabled? This is for UV 10.2 Windows.
Thanks -

We have far too many users (thousands) for TANDEM to be a graceful solution;
unfortunately.
We are looking at solving this on the UV level by keeping track of where a
user was and writing out regularly to various records as they progress in
their session, and presenting the user with a screen at
Hi all,
Back in the mvBASE days, a telnet disconnect would allow an interactive
user's activities to continue. UV is smarter than this, however, and is
quick to get rid of disconnected users. At least, it does not behave in the
same way.
What I would like to know is if there are facilities
I have found a pretty easy solution for allowing SSH logins from AccuTerm,
preserving ADDS VP emulation, if you don't have any Unix boxes lying around.
Install Cygwin on a Windows box (not necessarily your UV box, and with the
overhead involved I would recommend a different machine)
Make sure you
16G is supported on x64 (and I suppose Itanium) versions only. 32-bit
versions are limited to 4G.

Ever since we switched to a new network (but before as well), we've
experienced lots of unexpected disconnects--people in the middle of
transactions or actively doing things suddenly becoming disconnected, often

Should I optimize Windows for Programs or Background Services? I am not

We just deployed a new nationwide WAN for our stores with DSL as the access
method (not public DSL, DSL to a MPLS backbone, private, never touches the
public internet)...
I have noticed that latency is a bit of a problem in some locations. Now I
am working with the provider to see what they can
to assign equal amounts of processor resources
to all programs.

I'm 25 and was raised on the Mac/Amiga, then got into UNIXand used
Windows (reluctantly, until Win2k came out) since version 3.0 and various
other platforms...
When I first encountered our MV application I thought this looks like an
ancient piece of crap. I changed positions to IT manager
Can I ask a silly question--why are there no MV books in bookstores in
print?
Anyone want to write one? ;-)
Is the MV market expanding, shrinking, or staying stagnant? Does IBM plan
to really start promoting U2 or is it just something they acquired to get a
few large customers? Anybody?
Gabe
Good luck with that. All I have to say about Gentoo is be careful with
compiler flags going a little too crazy and ports (or whatever they call
them, I forget) getting out of sync.
Would be nice to get UV on FreeBSD but it seems to work beautifully on
Windows.. no complaints so far =) Microsoft
I feel a little dumb asking this but IBM's site isn't exactly informative
with my question---
What are the principle differences between UV and UD anyway?
Thanks,

Hi list,
We use TANDEM a lot to interact with user sessions, for training, problem
diagnostic and occasionally employee monitoring purposes. We were lucky
that it became available with 10.2 on NT, as it's an invaluable tool for our
~100 dumb terminal users (until we switch to shadowable thin
It looks like my company is moving to WinTerms with AccuTerm (finally!) from
the ADDS terminals.
Thus we have about 100 working ADDS terminals, about 95% of which have the
RJ-45 clips, and 28 working
Systech RJ-45 serial port/printer servers, with 16 ports each.
Let me know privately if anyone
I can't seem to get ahold of anyone at Boundless technologies--who seem to
have inheirited the ADDS line.
Most of our sites are in other parts of the country. The terminals we have
on-site where I work use PS/2 style keyboards, although it is my
understanding that some of them use RJ-11 style
possible on
MvBase.

Here were our problems with MvBase:
1. Crashing. The workstation service, whether run as a service or
application, would crash almost
on the file in
/tmp and waits till vi exits before comparing the old and new versions. If
there is a change, the original record is updated/deleted. In all cases the

I don't know whether to even attempt this, but--
it is my understanding that on UNIX versions of UniVerse, vi is available
and invokes the unix vi allowing you to use it in the same manner you can
use ED on UniVerse records.
Has anyone successfully gotten a Windows version of vi to run within
Are you running UV 10.2 on NT?
By any chance, is this the error you see after OFF?:
UniVerse error: Wait for server threads failed.. Win32 error: 6. The handle
is invalid..
I have wondered what this was.
Thanks,
