Hi all
Having caught up with my reading I see that SpeakUp has been accepted into
the current Release Candidate for the 2.6.37 kernal.
A couple of questions.
1. Will this kernal be shipped in Ubuntu 11.04?
2. Will the module be available for use?
3. Does the SpeakUp module in the kernal diffe

Has anyone testing Karmic been able to look at the new Apt Centre

Hi Luke
I'm in the process of getting ready to set up my own hone file server.
I know that the Live CD for the server does not come with any TTS packages,
but once it's installed are there any packages in any of the Ubuntu repos
that I can install to give me TTS on the Console? I have a vague

Hi All
Ever since upgrading to Gutsy I haven't been able to launch the Orca
preferences using + Space Bar. When I do this I get the
message "Orca Preferences launching - this may take some time" and the
speech disappears, although the screen magnification remains running.
I have tried launching

Upgraded from 6.10 to 7.04 using the update manager with no problems.
Updated yesterday from 7.04 to 7.10 and this went through OK.
However, Orca now no longer starts at boot up - no change in user details.

However, and this may well be my fault, I'm looking at putting Edubuntu on

Hi
Can anyone confirm whether Edubuntu, which I believe ships with the Gnome

or if it has to be downloaded afterwards?

Hi
All the OO components are accessabile. There are a couple of quirks in some
components in the distro versions of OO, but this shouldn't detract from

Hi Gramps
Nice to see you're still part of the shooting match!
All the various documents recommend that you upgrade through the previous
versions, so I'm afraid you'll need to go Edgy - 6.10 - before Fiesty -7.0.4

I'll jump on this wagon too.
My only requirement is an audible sound whilst the progress bar is
incrementing and then an alarm / othre sound once the bar is complete.
Whether that is spoken or sound I don't really mind.

Hi Folks
I would like to upgrade my Orca v1.0 to v2.18 or the recently announced

I've read through the Orca page on this, and since I'm new to upgrading on
Linux without using the Update Manager, I am a bit confused with the steps I
need to go through to do this.

Hi Henrik / Eric
Although I don't want to get embroilled in your discussions I have a
question to ask on this.
How does voice recognition work - does it use word parts as in a TTS engine
like eSpeak but in reverse, or does it maintain a dictionary of actual
words?

Thanks for working on this - unfortunately I'm back on my windows PC at the

Is there a keyboard method for installing the new theme?

Just finished installing Ubuntu 6.10 onto my home box this evening and have
managed to tailor things to what I want, or I know where to go to find out
how to.
However, one item is causing problems - if it is possible how do you change
the colour theme on the user log in screen - I want to
