I think the target PC is (IMO) a dual core PC, with 1 or 2 gigs of ram
and a gpu capable of running compiz at max anything. (Modern computers
usually have NVIDIA 8400 or better (Or ATI equivalents))

Well, you don't have to use it, but emerald certainly is somewhat more
powerful than GDM .
