Very nice! I like that idea, but thought
perhaps you could try implementing that into the sparkle ones. I agree
that the icons should be similar, but show a difference. However the up
arrow looks a little too much like a house to me. Makes me think of the
"home" folder.

I really liked the version with the computer on top :-) Another idea would be
to use the orange version for normal updates and the red version for urgent

That's probably not a good idea, since it's a metaphor based on language
(like the old log icon for the system log. We shouldn't do that,
