t set the user, then re-configure mysql to use one (iirc, by default, it has a root user. if it doesn't then just do as 'dpkg-reconfigure mysql-server' as root). If it still doesn't like it, try edting my.cnf (resides somewhere in /etc directory) directly - http://www.modwest.com/help
