Could you please suggest me a book [that is available in Nilkhet or on
the Internet] that will teach me Ubuntu/Linux starting from the basics
to some advanced level?
The problem is, I am using Ubuntu, doing many things using the GUI and
terminal without actually knowing them in depth.

One liner CLI is ok. But for ffmpeg or mencoder, it is overwhelming. I
still can't remember what option is needed for which converter. Using
such a versatile software in command line is insane.

I'll suggest you to not use binary executable, if you don't know, what you
are doing.
Go to terminal. Type,

As You have a GeforceMX, nvidia-glx-new will not work on your card
so you have to use nvidia-glx or nvidia-glx-legecy
Install nvidia-glx first
sudo aptitude install nvidia-glx
if it do not work, (X won't load) then install the nvidia-glx-legacy
sudo

Of course, Linux is not Windows. But that does not imply GUI means
Windows. In fact, GUI was invented by Xerox for a Unix-like OS. Then
Apple bought it from them and made Macintosh, then Bill stole it from
Apple to build Windows.
Using GUI on Linux or on any Unix is not harmful. You know, Mac is
