I'm not an Ubuntu developer, but it seems to me that this bug is serious
enough to block the 7.04 release. Networking only works on the most
trivial configurations, and it will stop working on systems where Dapper
and Edgy worked perfectly. In other words, it's a serious regression.

It was in Edgy. I have just checked, and it is fixed in Feisty. As a
side note, the text which appears in the hotplug dialogue box was nicer
in Edgy (Upload photos to Digikam rather than Detect camera and
upload to Digikam or whatever it is in Feisty). Although something

Suspend/resume was working fine for me up until a few days ago (dell
latitude d820). Now resume sometimes fails with black screen, or the
machine reboots. I have noticed an oops in the kernel log file (nvidia
module). But with the nv driver, I still can't suspend/resume.

I confirm the bug in Ubuntu Dapper, this should be fixed..
It is a very frustrating bug since it almost seemed like pppd was
ignoring the persist option and leaving me without Internet access
every 36 hours (ISP resets)..

I have the same problem running feisty x86_64 on a Mac Pro. 2.6.20-13.21
fails with a similar dmesg log.
When I boot this kernel and run gnome, I get Failed to initialize HAL.
Networking fails, and Suspend and Hibernate are unavailable from the
Quit dialog.
Blacklisting sbs fixes the HAL,
