The hardware that I have is a netbook. It uses an Intel Atom CPU, and
although the VT6656 chip is a USB device, it is not removable from the
interior of the netbook. I'd imagine that this is not an unusual usage

I have the same problem.
Another workaround is to make the file (.usb-creator.log) manually,
then make it writeable for all... so: needs to be fixed.

Just to comment you that I went back to Ubuntu 9.04.
Again, everything was going just fine until a security update has
arrived, with new kernel 2.6.28-14, linux-restricted-modules-generic -
2.6.28.11.14, etc. And once restarting, the same quoted black screen
came up.

1. run gconf-editor
2. on the left open desktop - gnome - peripherals - touchpad
3. on the right, mark the box tap_to_click
4. enjoy the tapping
But why this in unchecked by default???
